Japanese model manufacturer KOTOBUKIYA recently announced the third product in its new original assembly model kit series, "Megalo Maria", "NOVICE", which is scheduled for release in April 2024.
The new series "Megalo Maria" is KOTOBUKIYA's first product where the vast majority of parts are manufactured domestically in Japan. Unlike previous assembly models featuring bishoujo-style human or mecha girl appearances, this series adopts the new "Marionette Style" body, which has a humanoid puppet appearance and prioritizes "poseability" and "expressiveness". Its unique composite worldview is also connected to various KOTOBUBIYA assembly model series in a 'play-within-a-play' format, allowing for infinite possibilities in play.
The third character, "NOVICE", is designed with a nurse motif. Her entire body utilizes the series' common body design, featuring approximately 50 points of articulation within her approximately 16 cm height. This includes extremely flexible shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee joint designs, allowing the figure to perform incredibly fluid, lifelike movements. Furthermore, several universal 3mm hardpoints are located throughout her body, enabling parts interchangeability with other KOTOBUKIYA assembly model products. Her head expressions and bangs parts can even be swapped with the 'Sousai Shojo Teien' series, greatly expanding playability.
In addition to strengthening these basic joint articulation designs, the "Marionette Style" body also incorporates many new elements not found in previous products. These include hip armor that can be chosen between a left and right independent type for enhanced articulation or a single-piece type that prioritizes aesthetics. The wrist joints feature a triple-joint structure that can bend 180 degrees, recreating deployable internal weapon connection points. Accessories include 7 types of interchangeable hand parts, six short knives, and short knife holders that can be equipped on both arms, allowing for dynamic battle poses, such as throwing knives, when combined with the flexible articulation.
